Wait… Wait

PppffffftHAHahahaha I splutter through my orange juice at approximately 10:13 on a Saturday morning, listening to my favorite radio show. Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me is head-over-heels funny!

Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me is funny to me because I keep up with current events, they make lots of references to events like the Winter Olympics. To enjoy Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me you also need a (to say it frankly) tiny bit more complex style of humor. If your type of comedy is people slipping on ice and falling into puddles than go watch AFV or some vines. To like Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me you need to be able to sit through some boring parts to get through to the gold. Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me is about the funniest news stories of the week, whether they got good coverage or not. For the start of every episode they give a quote to some fan who called in who must decode who said it. The also pull in an expert on something/anything for every episode to play “Not My Job” a game where they must answer questions about very different things. For example this week the man who wrote the two volume book about Elvis Presley had to answer questions about K-pop, the Korean pop music that became popular with GANGNAM STYLE.. . You also learn some useless facts about anything I learned that some fans can recognize disguised K pop artists by their arms, and k-pop artists can’t eat or drink after 7:00 pm lest they get fat (or hydrated I’d imagine).

Anyway, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me is on KUT at 10:00am every Saturday. It’s a lot more funny than I made it sound… trust me. So try it. Wait Wait will make you wet your pants– in a good way

sorry for writing this terrible post (i’ll be ending all of my posts with that from now on) bye

“The Flag”

“The flag” means about a billion things worldwide. I’m sure when you think “the flag” you thought of red white and blue if you’re my classmate, or an Australian, or a Brit, or a Norwegian, but you could have thought of the Italian flag, or the French or your favorite basketball teams flag faithfully swinging off your dads car. The essence of a flag is its power to communicate a statement whether it is (nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows.. ) “cough, sorry” whether it is a statement of patriotism or simply “GO HORNS GO!” a flag gives a person personality. flags come in all shapes, sizes, colors, universal meanings, and course countries.

Celebration West Ridge was so fun! I got my hair dyed and I fell over in the hamster ball. We popped balloons with darts. Celebration West Ridge (for those of you who are boring) is an annual event in which students and faculty may be as rowdy and sugar high as their heart desires.  I had a great time with my neon green, red, and black hair. At the very least half of West Ridge probably had a simultaneous sugar crash twords 5:00 last night. My friend Kyle pointed out about halfway through CWR that we would have been in about free period by then. It was odd with the high sugar levels ad the short classes, which really put off my internal clock. Good thing I have the weekend to put it right! Except I just woke up at 6:00 AM to run a five k (I got my PR BTW) and afterward a soccer game so signing off at 2:33 PM goodnight Austin!!! your favorite afro’d middle schooler

In My Opinion… But No One Asked Me

In my opinion unicorns are dangerous and are to be hunted, but no one asked me.

In my opinion they shouldn’t waste time with “fabulizing” the names of flowertacular scented air freshener and just make one that smells like cooking onions, but no one asked me.

In my opinion there should be a button on every computer titled “no not in the URL box I meant to Google it”, but no one asked me.

In my opinion “I’m right you’re wrong be quiet”, but no one asked me.

In my opinion “I’m right you’re wrong be quiet” should be painted on all government buildings in Washington , but no one asked me.

In my opinion carbonated meat should be a thing, but no one asked me.

In my opinion the humble bicycle needs a second function, but no one asked me.

In my opinion we should have put more effort into cars befor releaseing them when hey were first invented so that if we were to use flying cars now we wouldn’t need to tear down ALL of the roads and ALL of the street signs, but no one asked me.

Something just occurred to me and before I forget here it is. We recently read “The Giver” by Lois Lowry and in that book’s wold words are very important. As I was walking down to grab my book Black Elk Speaks (awesome!) I thought to myself harassment is a word that the people in The Giver must hate because harassment can be as light as pestering your friend or horrid like whipping a medieval prisoner. Harassment and harassing are light, heavy, indiscriminate, and personal. It’s a shame to have only one word where eight could be more useful and effective. On second thought possibly they love it because it has so many uses like a verbal Swiss Army knife.
